Our mission

To deliver an inclusive and community orientated track event where every participant feels welcome, supported and hungry for more runs.

Building on our inaugural DGRS 5k Track Races in March 2023, our aim is to deliver an event which offers:

The opportunity to experience the track sensation and socialise with runners of every ability

Accessibility for participants and spectators to current and former NZ representatives

Why not PB, having a NZ rep as your pacer. A totally unique experience!

Now with options of 800m, Mile, the Community, whanau friendly Milestone and the always popular 5k, including three junior races. All paced by a local legend.

Welcome to the DGRS TWILIGHT CHALLENGE Journey

“He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tāngata He tāngata He tāngata!”

“What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people!”

  • Don Greig Racing Stable (DGRS) started a trial event of 5k paced races at Nga Puna Wai in March 2023. The idea behind this event was to get more runners involved in Athletics Canterbury events and increase positive community exposure to our clubs. Many people think Athletics Canterbury is just about fast people running around a track or throwing a shot put. The reality is that there are runners with a wide range of abilities and goals, not so similar to runners outside of AC. This group of non club runners is plentiful as demonstrated by the high levels of consistent support that Parkrun events in Christchurch receive each Saturday (about 800 on average). Running remains a very popular activity so any event that encourages a broader participation should be given due consideration.

  • DGRS is a running club that embraces all abilities. All you need is an interest in running. We seek to help our members and the broader community to reach their running goals. We pride ourselves on our friendliness and inclusiveness, encouraging healthy running together.

From simple and modest beginnings, we now have over 100 members. The DGRS Twilight Challenge is a pathway toward growing the activity we all love.

  • DGRS aims to grow and support the running community in Canterbury. We celebrate the involvement of all our runners irrespective of ability. It is the love of running and the health benefits this brings that binds us together. Having support in the form of pacing and run time categories that are based on runners ability help to minimise concerns of some runners that they are not fast enough. You will surprise yourself. Expect to be cheered along.

  • The DGRS Twilight Challenge offers the following:

A new experience for many (running on the track).

Paced by local legends of the sport, runs at your ability and the distance that works for you (from 800m to 5k).

A friendly, welcoming, and informative evening for kids and adults with food and fun.

Generous prizes for our competitive races.

A social media experience you can share the journey and the action on the night with friends and family.
